WorldSkills Ireland 2023 and The Ploughing Championship

Kerry College had a busy week at the WorldSkills Ireland 2023 event at the Dublin’s RDS Simmonscourt and the Ploughing Championship which returned to Ratheniska, Co. Laois last week.

The WorldSkills which is often considered as the Olympics of Skills offered visitors a unique opportunity to learn about different industries, discover exciting job pathways, and options for a career in the skills and trade industry.

Kerry ETB and Kerry College was represented in various competitions (Architectural Stonemasonry, Industry Automation, Commis Chef and Beauty Therapy) which included several Kerry competitors. We are thrilled to announce two Silver Medal Winners and two Runner Up achievements. These competitors should be exceptionally proud of themselves, as we are!

Kerry College Broadcast Production Skills learners, along with their instructor, live streamed each day’s activities, the awards event and produced all social media for the 3-day event. Live segments were presented by Radio Kerry’s Brendan Fuller to everybody’s enjoyment.

The Ploughing Championships was another huge success this year with a record number of people attending the event over the three days.

This year the Kerry College Admissions Team, along with Kerry ETB’s National Apprenticeship Programme Coordinator for the Wind Turbine Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship, were joined by representatives from TLI where they met with hundreds of spectators over the three days.

Kerry College Access and Pathways Officer Phena Mulligan said:

This year we were back in The Hub – Education & Business tent, spreading awareness of what Kerry College has to offer further afield. Focusing our Unique courses and those ran in conjunction with TLI, Fibre Installation Technician, Civils For Fibre Installation and Overhead Lines Operative, it was great to show off what Kerry College has to offer!
