Kerry College Admissions Office Pursues AsIAm Accreditation

Kerry College Admissions Office is proud to announce its proactive steps towards gaining AsIAm accreditation. This esteemed recognition is awarded by AsIAm, Ireland’s National Autism Charity, which advocates for the creation of an inclusive society for neurodivergent people. To achieve this milestone, Kerry College has undertaken a series of comprehensive measures to ensure their facilities and services are welcoming and accessible to all individuals.

Staff Training on Autism Awareness

A significant stride towards this goal has been the completion of AsIAm training by the Admissions Office staff. This training is designed to provide participants with a deep understanding of autism, emphasising practical strategies to support and engage effectively with autistic individuals. The training covers a broad spectrum of topics, including communication techniques, sensory considerations, and best practices for creating an inclusive environment. By participating in this training, the staff are now better equipped to meet the diverse needs of prospective learners and their families.

Site Walkthroughs for Accessibility

In addition to staff training, Kerry College has conducted thorough site walkthroughs of its campus facilities with Training Officer, James Moroney. These walkthroughs, guided by AsIAm standards, are crucial for identifying and addressing any physical or environmental barriers that might affect autistic individuals.

The insights gained from these walkthroughs are instrumental in making informed adjustments to the Admissions Office. By creating a more accessible and supportive environment, Kerry College aims to facilitate a smoother and more positive experience for all learners, particularly those on the autism spectrum.

Commitment to Inclusivity

Kerry College’s initiative to gain AsIAm accreditation underscores its commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity. By prioritising autism awareness and accessibility, the Admissions Office is not only enhancing its admissions process but also fostering a culture of empathy and understanding within Further Education and Training.

By striving for AsIAm accreditation, Kerry College is hope to set a benchmark for Further Education and Training institutions in Ireland, demonstrating that inclusivity and excellence can go hand in hand. This initiative marks a significant step forward in creating a more diverse and supportive educational environment for all learners.
